QT is pleased to present Homosapien 2, a solo exhibition by New York based artist Pia Howell.

For her most recent body of work Howell continues her series of "colorgrams", a type of analog color photograph made by exposing hand-made transparencies directly onto photographic paper. Howell’s practice examines the development of human expression in the light of cultural and technological evolution, particularly how emotions, implicit in expressive, gestural, hand-made work, translate (or fail to translate) to symbolic, reproducible media and digital communication

Pia Howell (b. 1986, Kansas City, MO) currently lives and works in New York. She received a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University in 2008, after spending a year studying Photography at Rhode Island School of Design. In 2011, she had her first solo show at Golden Age, Chicago; she has also exhibited at Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Hal Bromm Gallery, New York; Art Since the Summer of ’69, New York; and Bodega, Philadelphia, among others. Upcoming projects include a publication for the Brooklyn Shelf Life installation at Brooklyn Academy of Music, organized by Jesse Hlebo, Showpaper, and Printed Matter; additionally, she will be the artist collaborator for Etudes Studio’s Fall/Winter 2013 Menswear collection, in which two of her works will be adapted as textile designs.
